All my life I have been allergic to the aluminum salts used in antiperspirants. I tried as I got older, which created horrible, painful lumps in my armpits and trips to the doctor. I spent hundreds of dollars buying ‘natural’ deodorants. Have you smelled these? They’re either too old-world-hippie (I’m talking to YOU, Tom’s of Maine), too masculine(Tom? Are you listening?!), or too messy to apply (Ugh. Rock crystals.) What do all of these have in common? They don’t last eight hours after applying! If you can’t get a girl through a day at the cubicle farm, what chance do you have at a summer picnic or dancing in a club? I simply gave up and used perfume. Expensive, ce n’est pas?
Then I read an article about buying luxe beauty products that are more naturally based (a gateway drug for me) and came across this fantastic, too-good-to-be true sounding item: Soapwalla Deodorant Cream. Quite simply, it actually does what it’s supposed to do. Keeps underarm funk away and and keep you smelling fresh.
Summers in New Orleans are brutal. Heat and humidity can ruin the smoothest of operators. Even when I awake after a late, late night Soapwalla is still going strong. Don’t let the cream formulation stop you from trying it. A pea-sized dollop is enough for both pits and it’s quite economical. It’s butch enough for dudes and femme enough for a woman. In either case, it doesn’t clash with whatever fragrance you’re wearing.
There’s only one caveat: you may have issue with the baking soda reacting to your skin. They also make a version with cornstarch, and they will happily exchange and ship it to you!
